Until we have our own lanes, some advice for the screamers:
Don’t tell me to ride on the sidewalk. People who know something about traffic laws may scoff, but plenty of others are outraged to see us on the streets, the only place adults are allowed to ride.
Walkers, don’t yell at me about running a red light while you are jaywalking.
Drivers, don’t pretend my biking is what’s slowing you down in lower Manhattan at rush hour. You aren’t going anywhere fast.
And stop griping that bikes break traffic laws. Everyone in New York breaks the traffic laws. Everyone. New Yorkers consider traffic signals interesting suggestions. Complaints about scofflaw bikes are hypocritical at best."
